E-signature

Also known as: Electronic signature · digital signature · E-Signatur

An e-signature is electronic data used to sign. Its requirements depend on the document; eIDAS distinguishes electronic, advanced and qualified signatures.

The EU eIDAS framework distinguishes electronic, advanced and qualified electronic signatures. Under Article 25 eIDAS, a qualified electronic signature has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature. Section 126a BGB regulates electronic form where statutory written form is required.

Whether a simple signature is sufficient depends on the requirements of the specific document. Capturing a drawn name alone does not establish a qualified signature.

The RoadReview management system in closed beta implements signature capture, signed PDF/scan downloads and signature resets. Document-specific token access and revocable guardian/representative links allow external signing in the intended signature roles. They do not grant general access to the student record.
