Multi-tenancy (Mandantenfähigkeit)

Also known as: Multi-tenancy · Mandantenfähigkeit · tenant isolation

Multi-tenancy (in German Mandantenfähigkeit) means software that serves many customers (tenants) on one shared instance while strictly isolating their data. Each driving school sees only its own records.

Multi-tenancy is an architecture principle: instead of running a separate installation per driving school, all customers share one technical instance — while each tenant’s data stays logically and strictly separated.

Why it matters for driving schools:

  • Data separation: no school can see another school’s student, invoice or drive data.
  • Security: the separation is enforced on the server, not merely hidden in the UI.
  • Data protection: clean tenant isolation is part of the technical and organisational measures (TOMs) in the data processing agreement.

In RoadReview every resource is school-scoped: each requested ID is checked server-side against the accessing person’s tenant. At the same time the student profile stays portable — a person can be a member of several schools without those schools gaining access to each other’s data.
