Schulterblick (shoulder check)

Also known as: Shoulder check · Blind-spot check · Blick über die Schulter

A Schulterblick is a direct look over the shoulder into the blind spot. It supplements mirror checks, for example when pulling away, changing lanes and turning.

A shoulder check supplements mirror checks with a direct look to the side and rear of the vehicle. It helps identify road users in the blind spot.

Typical situations include pulling away from the kerb, changing lanes and turning alongside cyclists. The StVO requires attention to following traffic or the exclusion of danger to other road users in these situations (Sections 7, 9 and 10).

Annex 7 FeV regulates the assessment of exam errors but does not state that every missing shoulder check alone causes an exam failure.

In RoadReview Mobile, the instructor can record a specific observation as a location-tagged marker with an audio memo. After the lesson, the explanation can be reviewed at the documented location.
