RoadReview App In use

Choose how you document a lesson.

Paper notes and spreadsheets can record information. RoadReview adds route-linked feedback and shared lesson review. School management is a separate closed beta product.

Compare the same lesson tasks

This compares handwritten notes, an ordinary spreadsheet and the RoadReview App. Additional tools and your own templates can change what a spreadsheet workflow supports.

Connect a note to a place

Paper
Write down the location and the situation together; use a sketch if helpful.
Excel / spreadsheet
Add columns for the place, date and feedback. You maintain the links between entries.
RoadReview App
GPS route and recorded situations belong to the same lesson. Location permission and suitable GPS reception are required.

Review with the learner

Paper
Bring the notes to the discussion or provide a copy of the relevant entries.
Excel / spreadsheet
Share the relevant file or view and agree which version you are discussing.
RoadReview App
The learner can revisit the recorded route and available feedback in the linked account after successful synchronisation.

Plan the next exercise

Paper
Record the next task alongside the lesson notes and take it to the next session.
Excel / spreadsheet
Use a task list or lesson history; update it when you review progress.
RoadReview App
Recorded learning topics and next steps provide context for the next lesson. Progress remains an orientation aid, not a pass prediction.

Work with limited connectivity

Paper
Paper notes can be written and read without an internet connection.
Excel / spreadsheet
Offline editing depends on your chosen spreadsheet application and file setup.
RoadReview App
Completed lessons can be saved locally and uploaded later. Maps and viewing the new lesson on other devices require connectivity.

Control access and sharing

Paper
Choose who receives copies and store originals with controlled access.
Excel / spreadsheet
Sharing and co-authoring depend on the Excel version and storage. Microsoft describes OneDrive or SharePoint Online and configurable permissions for co-authoring.
RoadReview App
Use the intended school and learner access. Family requires a voluntary invitation that the learner can revoke.

Compare total effort and cost

Paper
Account for materials, storage and time spent writing, copying and retrieving records.
Excel / spreadsheet
Check software licences, storage, template maintenance and staff time. An existing licence does not make every workflow cost-free.
RoadReview App
Discuss product-specific conditions, setup and access. Management beta participation is a separate arrangement; no general savings figure is promised.

Preserve records when changing tools

Paper
Keep the required originals and identify which information should also appear in the new workflow.
Excel / spreadsheet
Save an agreed copy and review columns, student identifiers and required information before handing files over.
RoadReview App
Agree which records can be transferred. Paper notes and arbitrary spreadsheets are not promised as an automatic import; start with a defined lesson workflow.

Start with a defined lesson workflow

  1. Choose the lesson context. Identify the learner and the lesson. In RoadReview, choose the student and lesson type before recording.
  2. Record concrete situations. With notes or a spreadsheet, describe where feedback applies. In the app, record the route and mark relevant situations with the available notes.
  3. Review and agree on the next task. Check the entries before sharing them. The app’s linked learner account receives the lesson after successful upload. Use the recorded situations as the starting point for a discussion with the instructor.

When each approach fits

Paper notes can be suitable for a written summary that you discuss in person. A spreadsheet can suit a structured list your team maintains, including shared editing where the setup supports it. RoadReview suits a workflow in which the actual route and recorded situations should remain available in linked accounts after synchronisation.

Before changing tools, agree what stays in the existing archive and what you need in the new workflow. Test with a defined lesson, check the learner view and clarify any transfer before expanding use. We discuss transfer scope and timing before setup.

Scope and sources

This compares manual notes and an ordinary spreadsheet workflow, not every possible Excel template, add-in or custom integration. The tasks above are practical evaluation examples, not a measured time-saving or market-share claim.

Questions about replacing notes and spreadsheets

When are paper notes or a spreadsheet a suitable choice?

If you need a written lesson summary or a manually maintained list, both can support that task. Agree how entries identify the learner, date and situation, and how the learner receives the relevant feedback.

What does RoadReview add to that workflow?

The app brings the recorded route, marked situations and available notes together in a lesson. The learner can review the synchronised record in the linked account. What you can discuss depends on what was actually recorded.

Does the app replace school administration?

School management is a separate product in closed beta. App access alone does not grant access to the management beta. Family is available through a voluntary, revocable learner invitation; it requires synchronised training data.
