The 35 kW power limit and the upgrade from A1
Class A2 is capped at 35 kW and sits between A1 and A. If you have held class A1 for two years, you upgrade with a practical exam only. RoadReview stores the A1 prerequisite per enrolment and calculates the theory requirements to match the access route.
- A1 prerequisite stored and visible
- Upgrade from A1: training focused on practice
- Direct entry at 18: theory + practice per enrolment
Special drives and basic manoeuvres, documented
Practical A2 training covers basic manoeuvres and special drives (overland, motorway, night). RoadReview counts recorded drives per type, allows manual corrections with history and pins notes via geo-feedback. Required quantities come from the licence-class catalogue.
- Counts per drive type with correction history
- Geo-feedback per drive on the route driven
- Required quantities from the catalogue, class-specific
Exam and digital training record
Exams are managed per enrolment — for the upgrade from A1, the practical only. A passed exam unlocks the next phase; the training record is produced digitally as a PDF with your school letterhead instead of a spreadsheet.
- Exam attempts with date, location and result
- Digital training record as a PDF
- Exam-readiness score as guidance — a recommendation, not a guarantee

Frequently asked questions
How does class A2 differ from A1 and A?
Class A2 allows motorcycles up to 35 kW — more than A1 (11 kW) but less than the unrestricted class A. It is possible from 18 and is the typical middle step in the staged licence.
Does the upgrade from A1 to A2 need a theory exam?
No. If you have held class A1 for two years, you upgrade to A2 with a practical exam only. RoadReview calculates the theory requirements per access route and sets up the training accordingly.
How are class A2 special drives tracked?
The app records drives per type (overland, motorway, night) and counts them against the required quantities stored in the licence-class catalogue. Exact counts come from the catalogue; manual corrections are kept with history.
Can A2 training later be extended to A?
Yes. After two years of class A2, the upgrade to A is possible with a practical exam only. In RoadReview the prior class stays documented on the profile and the A enrolment builds on it.
